Welcome to the South

It's been a patchy couple of weeks on the word count front, a year into our move to "the south" and this midwesterner is still struggling with the ferocity that is southern allergies. I'm not sure if it's the lack of a real winter or there simply more things floating around in the air or if it's just more different things than I'm used to. That said, since my last post I've pretty much felt like a walking, talking head cold - only it wasn't a cold.

Convinced I had the flu or walking pneumonia or strep (my throat has been a gravel pit of pain and sorrow), I visited the doctor a little more than a week ago. The diagnosis: allergies. So, after several days of regular doses of ibuprofen, Claritin, and Flonase I almost feel human again and am back at the keyboard.

I finally crossed the 43k word count mark last night after what felt like an endless slog hovering up and down around 42k. Tonight we crack the next thousandth threshold in a march toward the magical and arbitrary 50,000-word mark - the bare minimum (at least in my head) of what might constitute a novel-length manuscript.

But I digress, back to the WIP...
